JOHN GANCARZ: Supreme Court justices should not lean toward a particular party

TO THE EDITOR:

I have been around to see our Supreme Court hand down decisions for more than 40 years.

What is so baffling to me is how can nine well-educated people study a problem and almost every time when they vote on something, it turns out 5-4, and it is five jurists that were put on the Supreme Court by a Democratic president and the four other jurists were put on by a Republican president.

This goes on time after time. These things just can’t happen. These jurists repaying the political party that put them on the Supreme Court with their decisions. And where does that leave us? Going from one extreme to another.

This is not good for the people of America and not at all good for our country itself.

Our Supreme Court can not and must not make decisions based on their political leanings or in time the American people will lose faith in their decisions and then there will be people not abiding the law or their decisions at all.

What the Supreme Court is doing now is just being an extended arm of one political party or the other, and the Supreme Court was not created to do that. The decisions they are handing down prove that; it’s all political.
