JERRY SIEBLER: Provides examples of division in America

TO THE EDITOR:

“Divided we fall.” Today people agree that this country is divided, but most do not realize just how bad we are divided. Here are a few examples that most Americans do not think about when they think of how and why we are divided.

Those that destroy history versus those who make it.

Those who kneel on the sidelines versus those who kneel in the end zone.

The progressives versus the conservatives.

Those living in modern government housing versus those living in old houses with leaky roofs.

Those who pay income taxes versus those who don’t.

Those who riot versus those who pay the costs afterward.

The black caucus versus?

Those who get free health care versus those who have to pay for it.

Those who burn our flag versus those who raised it in Iwo Jima.

Those who affirmative action helped versus those who it hurt.

Those who get thousands of dollars as “earned income” tax refunds versus those who pay extra income taxes to make up for it.

Those whose occupation is to collect taxpayers handout versus those who work at real jobs.

Those elected officials who serve the people versus those who serve their party and themselves.

Those history professors who teach the truth versus those who make it up as they go.

Those who think it is a good idea to spend billions to go to Mars versus those who do not.

Those who do now work and pass “help wanted” signs versus the 70-year-old Walmart greeter.

These are just a few of the whys and hows. The reader can add his or her own.
