40 YEARS AGO

Little League sports banquet

Eagles Little League team members were honored recently during the Eagles Sports Banquet for the Little League and girls’ baseball teams. Proud of the trophies they won are: Dave Raatz (most valuable players); Jeff Bladzik (most improved); Ron Hansen (best defense); Rob Wilkosz (best offense); and Mike Gustad (most improved).

Lots of fishermen

Manistee’s pier fishermen have had a barren summer so far with few perch reported. But now that coho and chinook salmon are moving into their spawning areas, fishing off the piers resulted in some good catches yesterday.

60 YEARS AGO

Cub Theatre purchased

Mr. and Mrs. James Clouse have purchased the Cub Theatre. They do not plan to open it for business until about June 1 of next year. Mr. and Mrs. Clouse left Thursday to spend about two weeks in Detroit and then will go to Florida to spend the winter months.

80 YEARS AGO

Eagles open fall season

The Fraternal Order of Eagles of Manistee formally ushered in the fall club season with a gala meeting at the lodge rooms last night. The entertainment committee, headed by Felix A. Miklas, took charge of the affair which consisted of a banquet, entertainment, music and speeches. Music was furnished by Stanley O’Donnell and his band. Russel Peterson of Eastlake entertained with a humorous monologue and the Dumas brothers played several musical selections.

Sunday game called off

Wet grounds yesterday forced postponement of the third city series baseball game between the Eagles and the Saints at Rietz Park. The game will be played next Sunday. Frank Newman reminds members of the Saints team that practice sessions will be held Wednesday and Friday this week.
