Deadline nears for Sleighbell Parade

The deadline for entries in the Victorian Christmas Sleighbell Parade is Nov. 20. The year’s parade is slated for Saturday, Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m.. This is a change from previous years when the parade was held on a Friday at 7 p.m. The Dr. William Anderson Award will be presented to the entry that most reflects the spirit of the Victorian Sleighbell Parade and Old Christmas Weekend.

Bear Lake at Ferris

Last Saturday the Bear Lake High School band participated in homecoming festivities at Ferris Institute. The 37-piece group left school at 6 a.m. and arrived at Big Rapids about 8:30. Morning rehearsal with bands from 12 other schools occupied the time until 10:50, at which time all participants were hosts of the college at a luncheon. The band marched in the homecoming parade at 1 p.m. and proceeded to Top Taggart Field to view the football game and to take part in the halftime festivities.

Kann to host luncheon

The local firm of Kann & Co. will be host at a 12:30 luncheon in Hotel Chippewa on October 24 to Chrysler-Plymouth dealers of Western Michigan. An advance showing of the new Chrysler line to dealers will be conducted by factory representatives.

Express thanks

Delighted with the gift of a piano for their use at the new Girl Scouts headquarters on Fifth Street, local Girl Scouts and members of the Manistee Girl Scouts Council take this means of publicly expressing their appreciation to Mrs. Frank C. Barnes, the donor. According to Mrs. Harold Bates, council commissioner, the girls who are busy furnishing carpeting and curtaining their new rooms, are still looking for a victrola they might use.
