MHS grad promoted to sergeant at St. Ignace MSP Post

ST. IGNACE — The Michigan State Police (MSP) St. Ignace Post Commander, F/Lt. John Schneider recently announce the promotion of Tpr. Ryan Godfrey to a uniform sergeant position at the St. Ignace Post.

In this role, Godfrey is responsible for directing and coordinating troopers patrol activity and daily duties, maintaining the post schedule, overseeing the Field Training Officer program, leading and mentoring staff, and augmenting troopers’ tasks at crimes scenes and critical incidents.

Godfrey has prior military service and he enlisted with the department in 2004 as a member of the 120th Trooper Recruit School. He was assigned to the Cheboygan Post out of recruit school and later transferred to St. Ignace in 2011 when the Michigan State Police had a departmental reorganization.

Godfrey took a temporary assignment on the newly formed Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team – East. After the assignment with UPSET-E, he came back to the St. Ignace Post where he worked as a Field Training Officer and later a Community Services Trooper.

Godfrey is a 1995 graduate of Manistee High School and upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy Seabees completing a five-year enlistment.

Godfrey and his wife, Rebecca, live in Cheboygan with their two sons, and he will be an outstanding addition to the St. Ignace Post leadership team.
