Manistee County Library hosts children’s Valentine’s Party

MANISTEE — Love is something that touches people of all ages, and on Saturday morning the Manistee County Library held a Valentine’s Day party for children.

The Manistee County Library held a children’s Valentine Party on Saturday.

The morning was filled with plenty of fun activities that put all the children in the spirit of the upcoming Valentine’s Day.

Manistee County Library Youth Services coordinator Laurel Sproul said all the library had lots of fun activities and tasty treats for the kids to enjoy.

“We have a variety crafts and they can make their own Valentine card or poster,” said Sproul. “There is coloring activities, a bean bag game where they can win a book. We even had cookies and treats for them.”

Sproul said it was a day where children and their parents could get out of the cold weather that has been hitting the Manistee area for the past few days and have some fun on a Saturday morning. The event was held in the Lakeside Club room upstairs at the library which was decorated in a Valentine’s Day theme.

“It is just one of the regular programs we do here at the library,” Sproul said. “We did it in the past for Valentine’s Day, and I thought it would be fun to do again.”

Sproul said that they do children’s programs throughout the year at the library for a variety of different age groups. Besides being good fun for the children and their parents the activities get them into an environment at the library that encourages reading.

It also gets people in a regular pattern of visiting the library and making it a central focal point in the community.

“There is a lot of things we do for the kids, like we have Lego Night on Mondays where the kids come in and build things that we display here in the library,” Sproul said. “On Tuesday’s at 4 p.m. there is a teen advisory meeting as we are trying to get more teens into the library and plan some activities they are interested in doing.”

After more than a century of service to the community, the Manistee County Library continues to be a place where people of ages enjoy visiting on a snowy day to have some fun.
