TED ARENS: Adding insult to injury for the USS Liberty crew

TO THE EDITOR:

Five years ago, Sen. Carl Levin came to the Ramsdell Inn to support one of our local politicians.

I took the opportunity to ask him why he didn’t support the USS Liberty veterans. He told me a bold face lie and said, “I don’t remember the USS Liberty attack”.

I had written him many times about this issue, I told him he was lying but there was no need to take the conversation any further. He was probably instrumental in blocking a fair investigation for the Liberty crew.

So now they are going to build a warship after him at the Bath Iron Works in Maine. Usually ships are only named after veterans, but now even this honor is becoming politicized.

It is now a reward bestowed on those who support the corrupt capitalistic, warmongering state controlled by the corporate oligarchs and the Military Industrial Complex (MIC). You know, the people who invented Al Qaeda and ISIS and the bogeyman Russia, Russia, Russia so they can justify the obscene wars and obscene military budgets.

MIC wants to keep the American people in a perpetual state of fear. They have bribed and funded the six companies that control all the major news organizations that spew their harmonized war propaganda, Venezuela, Lebanon and Iran are next on the war hit list. Their owners are part of the Oligarchy Cabal. They care not for Americans who sleep on the streets, or the 30 million Americans without health insurance, or the health insurance costs double those of Europe and Canada, or the identical medicines triple those of Canadian medicines, or the exporting of our good jobs to China, and the misery it creates by causing opioid use to spiral to epidemic levels and suicide rates to skyrocket.

The most decorated USS Liberty crew has been pleading for many years to have another ship named after her. But the corrupt establishment doesn’t want to draw attention to the betrayal of our veterans.

The Navy, led by Admiral John Richardson, would rather name a ship after Carl Levin, a man who betrayed the USS Liberty crew and therefore all veterans. Not once, but again and again and again, one of the most decorated crews in American history, has been betrayed by the political establishment and the United States Navy.
