Area students named to MSBOA All Star Band

MANISTEE — Several Manistee High and Brethren High School Band students recently took part in the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association District I All Star Band in Cadillac.

Several area students received the honor of being named to the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association District I All Star Band.Students receiving that honor from included Manistee High included in the front row (left to right) Aleah Miller (trombone) and Maxwell Lloyd (trumpet). Students receiving that honor from Manistee High included Aleah Miller (trombone), Kiera Raymond (trombone), Liam Quinn (horn) and Maxwell Lloyd (trumpet). Brethren students receiving the honor were William Hilliard (alto sax), Frederica Pedrotti (flute) and Logan Tighe (trumpet).

They joined  more than 100 students from all over District I for a day long program that included them working with a guest conductor that led up to a concert that evening.

All the members of that group were nominated by their band directors for that event.

Serving as director was Dr. Matthew Arau who is chair of the Music Education Department and associate director of bands at Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton Wisc. Arau teaches instrumental music education courses and is the conductor of the Symphonic Band, associate conductor of the wind ensemble of the symphony orchestra.

Musical numbers performed at the concert were “Emblem of Unity” (J.J. Richards), “The Bonsai Tree” (Julie Giroux), “Gadget” (Randall Standridge), “Bloom” (Steven Bryant) and “Dance the Joy Alive” (Nicole Piunno).
