HOWARD: Senior center getting ready for spring programs

By Sarah Howard

Senior Center Director

Happy Weekend! So happy spring is finally here and I am looking forward to seeing some beautiful weather in the very near future. I hope you are doing something wonderful this weekend. I know it will take a little time to get warmed up but I I know it is heading this way.

Last week was great! I am always so impressed with everything we can get in our schedule in five days. Our tax crew has been doing a great job helping seniors get their taxes done every Monday and Thursday. I am so proud of this group of volunteers. They work so hard to learn all of the new rules each year and they always make sure they get everyone’s taxes done. A huge thank you to our wonderful tax preparers, you are awesome.

Monday we had a wonderful meal prepared by the Meals on Wheels staff for St. Patrick’s Day. They prepared a delicious meal of corn beef and cabbage and all of the fixings. This was such a great lunch.

Thank you Bonnie, Sue, Tina, Tom and Jodi. I hope everyone is aware of all of the great meals that come out of this kitchen. The Meals on Wheels staff go above and beyond on the great meals that are prepared in our kitchen.

Monday we also had Kirk Josvai from West Michigan Hearing Institute in for our monthly hearing aid clinic. Thank you Kirk for watching out for the seniors in Manistee County!

Tuesday, we had a great time with Let’s Laugh! We had such a wonderful group that told jokes and were so much fun. I am so proud of the seniors. They sure are always excited to do anything fun and new.

On Wednesday, we celebrated March birthdays with a beautiful cake donated from Meijer. I want to thank Ken, Sue and all of the Meijer team members. You are phenomenal. You never disappoint the seniors of Manistee County. Thank you for all that you do!

We also had Munson Healthcare in to explain Advanced Care Planning. What a great presentation. Thank you Stephanie. This is so important for everyone to know. My husband and I don’t have anything in place. Now is the time.

We aren’t getting any younger and we need to make sure everyone knows what we want if we can’t speak for ourselves. I am ready to get all of this in order, not that we have a lot, but so it will be easier for our children. Thank you again, Stephanie. The presentation was great.

Thursday was pretty busy. Thursday is never a quiet day. We had taxes, sit and get fit, zumba, and the eyeglass clinic, cribbage, chess and chair yoga. Thank you to everyone who makes all of these programs possible. Friday was actually a bit quiet, but we did have game day which is always fun. Bunco is always a favorite on game day.

If you are looking for a great place to hang out or to find something fun and exciting to do, give us try. The senior center is definitely a place to go and have a great time. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with everything going on at the MCCOA/senior center.

The Tiger Trip is scheduled for June 6. This is going to be such a great adventure for everyone. We will see the Tigers vs Tampa Bay Rays. This will be such a fun game. If you are looking to cross something off your bucket list, stop by and sign up for the Tigers /Tampa Bay Rays game.

If you have been interested in a Tigers trip, give us a call to get on the signup list. I never know who is the perfect team is against the Tigers. So get signed up soon, the seats go pretty fast. We will have a great time. Go Tigers!!!!

I hope you have a great week and you try something new
