PARK TWP. — A man doing training and “cold-water swimming” prompted a brief scare at Holland State Park when observers thought a person was stranded on an iceberg, police said.

Park Township firefighters and Ottawa County sheriff’;s deputies responded about 10:30 a.m. Saturday to the state park on a report of a man stranded on an iceberg.

When they arrived, the man already was ashore.

Deputies spoke to the man and learned he was never in distress. He told them he was doing some type of training that involved cold-water swimming.

Deputies advised him that, to avoid any misperception about his activities, he might want to train in a different location.
