Democratic Party to hold monthly meeting

MANISTEE — The Manistee County Democratic Party will hold its monthly membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Dial-a-Ride, located at 180 Memorial Drive in Manistee.

This month’s speaker will be Jordan Crispell from the Sierra Club. She will speak about the “Ready for 100 percent” Campaign (RF100) for clean energy commitments at a local level. It asks for communities to come together and develop plans for a sustainable energy future that includes everyone’s voices: residents, businesses, elected officials, nonprofits and utilities. The RF100 campaign has been active across the state as part of the movement to end dirty energy and transition into a renewable energy future.

Currently, the cities of Grand Rapids, Traverse City and Ann Arbor have committed to 100 percent renewable energy in their municipal-owned buildings. Mayors in East Lansing, Ferndale and Kalamazoo have also signed the pledge. Last year, Traverse City became the first city in Michigan to set a community wide goal for renewable electricity.

Join the group in celebrating Earth Day 2019 with this timely and information.

Light refreshments will be served from 6:30 to 7 p.m. when the presentation will begin.

The public is always welcome.
