MARLA EVANS: Village clean up day a success

TO THE EDITOR:

On June 29, the Village of Bear Lake hosted its annual Community Clean Up Day.

Volunteers were scarce, but there were some, and for that I am so thankful. The handful of community members that showed up to help out are so appreciated, and because of them the cleanup was a success.

Seventy yards of garbage and blight was eliminated Saturday by our volunteers. That is success. The village also received an anonymous donation for $800 to put toward a second dumpster. The Community Clean Up day took months of planning and organizing. Cleaning up years of blight is an expensive and time consuming task.

We appreciate everyone who gave so much Saturday to help the village realize its cleanup day goals. I hope that volunteerism is catchy, and next year we have twice as many volunteers and twice the blight removal.
