MANISTEE — Fire personnel responded to reports of smoke at Manistee High School’s Paine Aquatic Center around 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Tim Kozal, Manistee Department of Public Safety director, said smoke filled the center after a light burnt out, but there were no flames. The initial call reported a “structure fire” in the women’s locker room.

The Manistee Fire Department, City of Manistee Police Department and Manistee Department of Public Works responded to the incident. Filer Township Fire Department crews were initially called to assist, but moments later they were called off.
