COURT REPORT: Osceola County’s 49th Circuit Court

REED CITY — The following cases were heard this week in Osceola County’s 49th Circuit Court. Not all cases are reported.

  • Gary Michael Talaski, 20, of Lake City, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny. The prosecutor recommended a sentence of 18 months in jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 8.
  • Jared William Gzym, 19, of Reed City pleaded guilty to larceny in a building, stealing a knife, money, jewelry and returnable cans and bottles. For that charge, he was sentenced to one to four years in prison. He also pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful driving away of a vehicle with each charge being a probation violation. For each of those charges, he was sentenced to 15 months to five years in prison. All sentences will run concurrently.
  • Donald James Talaski, 20, of Port Hope, pleaded guilty to receiving and/or concealing stolen property, including money jewelry and returnable cans and bottles, worth between $1,000 and $20,000. He was sentenced to eight months in jail with 95 days credit. He will be placed on probation for two years.
  • Brian Jeffrey Samuels, 26, of Big Rapids, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree fleeing police by ignoring an officer’s command to stop his vehicle, which caused a traffic accident in a 35 mph zone, and one count of resisting or obstructing an officer. He was sentenced to one to five years in prison for each charge and those sentences will be served consecutively. The court has no objection to Samuels attending boot camp if he is eligible.
