REED CITY – Reed City and Evart volleyball teams had success on the courts Thursday night in non-league action.
Reed city defeated Manistee 25-12, 25-13, 25-15.
Sami Michell had a strong night with nine kills and three aces while Emma Lockhart contributed seven kills and Kalee Hensel had four kills and four aces.
Jaclynn Millins recorded five kills. Amy McKee had four kills.
“For our first home game, we played good defense,” said Reed City coach Don Patterson. “There was a lot of energy for our first home game.”
The Coyotes are home next Wednesday in Central State Activities Association action against Holton and Central Montcalm.
EVART
Evart won on the road 25-27, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 at Coleman on Thursday night in nonleague play.
Magdalen Hyde had nine kills for Evart, followed by Chelsea Bengry with eight and Saige Nabozny with seven. Stephonya Hamilton added 26 assists. Bengry and Kristen Kullman had six blocks each. Hyde, Kullman and Nabozny had three aces apiece. Hyde added five kills while Kirsten Parsons contributed four.
Evart is now 1-5-1.
“It was a great team effort,” said Evart coach Cindy Zielinski. “The girls really pulled together and supported each other. Serves were a positive component to our win. We still have improvements to make but we are moving in the right direction.
Evart plays in the Montabella tournament on Sept. 10.
