May 15–ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Five suspects were taken into custody after a deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle thought to be associated with a series of retail thefts from West Michigan malls.

A deputy in Leighton Twp. noticed the car, which matched the description of a car that deputies were advised to be on the lookout for out of Portage on the suspicion of shoplifting.

When the deputy stopped the vehicle, he allegedly found a couple thousand dollars worth of merchandise, stolen from stores in Rivertown Crossings Mall in Grandville and Crossroads Mall in Portage.

The property was returned to the stores, and 5 suspects were taken into custody and lodged in the Allegan County Jail for receiving and concealing stolen property.

Additional charges are being sought against the suspects out of the areas the property was stolen from.
