BIG RAPIDS — From dining room tables and DVDs to microwaves and arm chairs, the Korner Spot offers a wide variety of gently used and wholesale items.

Jim and Katy Moore opened their east-side resale shop in August in the Trailside Crossings strip mall. They wanted to offer quality new and used items at affordable prices.

“People don’t think twice about buying a pre-owned car. Now they’re starting to think about buying second-hand and discount items,” said Katy Moore. “In this economy, it’s a good thing to repurpose and reuse items.”

This week, the Pioneer shines its business spotlight on the Korner Spot, located in Suite BB at 605 S. Third St., in Big Rapids.

PIONEER: Give a brief explanation of what your business does or specializes in.

KATY MOORE: We are a resale shop, selling furniture that is new, gently used, vintage and antique. We also carry collectibles, glassware, metal décor and more.

How did you come to own your business?

JIM MOORE: It all started with my wife saying, “Honey we need to purge items.”

What is one thing most people don’t know about your business?

KATY MOORE: Most people don’t know where we are located. We’re in the east-side business district, in the Trailside Crossings strip mall.

What sets your business apart from similar businesses?

KATY MOORE: We are not a consignment shop. All our goods are new or gently used.

How does your business give to the community?

KATY MOORE: We are looking forward to being involved with local fundraising and charity events.

What is an interesting trend you’ve seen with your company, or customers?

KATY MOORE: People are starting to look at purchasing items for their homes, the same as purchasing a quality pre-owned vehicle. At our store, you can get quality pre-owned items, such as a sofa, dining table and chairs, beds and more, for your home.

What is the best and worst thing about being in the business that you’re in?

KATY MOORE: It is great meeting new people and being able to provide new and pre-owned merchandise to them at a reasonable price.

We do not consider there being a “worse part” of the business, or we would not have opened the store.

What advice would you give to a fellow business owner or someone interested in starting their own?

KATY MOORE: My advice is to have patience.

Any last comments?

KATY MOORE: We hope the community will stop in to see us, to see what we have to offer. We always welcome feedback and suggestions.
