UM suspends Burke for exhibition opener

ANN ARBOR — Michigan sophomore guard Trey Burke is suspended for today’s exhibition opener against Northern Michigan for a violation of team standards.

In a news release, coach John Beilein said it was a result of “out-of-character decisions he now regrets.”

“Trey is a good kid who … will learn a very valuable (lesson from this) experience,” Beilein said Wednesday.

Burke, who didn’t start an early season game last season because he was late to practice, was named a first-team All-America just this week.

True freshman Spike Albrecht will start in his place and receive many of Burke’s minutes.

The other starters will be Tim Hardaway Jr., Jordan Morgan, Glenn Robinson III and an to-be-determined fifth player.

Jon Horford’s foot injury will keep him out, but Mitch McGary will play despite his foot problems.
