FSU’s Brown earns GLIAC honor

BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State University men’s basketball senior guard Kenny Brown was rewarded for his efforts in leading the Bulldogs to an unbeaten mark last week by being chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week.

Brown led the Bulldogs to two league victories over the weekend and hit two big buzzer-beaters in the process.

The senior guard tallied a game-high 26 points with eight rebounds and two steals in an exciting 72-68 double overtime triumph over league leader and previously unbeaten Wayne State.  He also hit a game-tying jumper off an inbounds play with less than three seconds to play in the first OT to force the second extra session.

Brown then came back on Saturday and hit a game-winning 3-pointer with six-tenths of a second left to play to lift the Bulldogs to a 50-47 road win over Saginaw Valley State. The 6-foot-2 senior totaled a team-best 15 points with two boards and an assist along with a steal versus SVSU.

In the two games, Brown averaged 20.5 points and 5.0 rebounds while totaling 41 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.  He also made six-of-13 (.462) three’s on the week.

Presently, he ranks fifth in the league in scoring (17.2 ppg.) and he’s among the national leaders in free throw percentage at 89.5 percent this campaign.

Ferris State will host archrival Grand Valley State on Saturday inside FSU’s Jim Wink Arena with tipoff set for 1 p.m.
