BIG RAPIDS — Students on spring break can skate for half price at the Big Rapids Roller Rink’s cheap skate.

Owner Lois Brennan is opening the doors this week to help keep kids occupied during the week-long break.

“It is still cold outside and I can keep them safe in here. It gives them something to do versus wandering around the park,” she said.

Brennan expects around 60 kids to participate in the cheap skate during the rink’s extended hours on Monday and Wednesday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Friday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Admission is $2 plus $2 skate rental.

“The price is right and parents can just drop them off,” Brennan said.

Reed City Elementary students Madison Shoemaker and Madison Stellini went to the cheap skate Monday to have fun with friends.

“I like when I get to skate fast with my friends,” said Shoemaker. “There are more than just skating, there is games too.”
