Golfers put fun in fundraiser at Pioneer Chamber Open

BIG RAPIDS — More than 130 golfers took to the fairways of Clear Lake Golf Club on Wednesday for the annual Pioneer Group Chamber Open golf scramble fundraiser.

The event, which serves as a fundraiser for the Mecosta County Area Chamber of Commerce, is one of the organization’s largest fundraisers of the year, said Jennifer Heinzman, the chamber’s executive director.

“It helps fund the rest of the activities the chamber puts on throughout the year,” Heinzman said.

The scramble began at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start and continued into the afternoon as teams of four took to the course.

Golfers were able to enjoy sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s with only a slight breeze while playing through the course.

Thirty-three teams were registered for this year’s event, Heinzman noted.
