Sidewalk sales planned for July 11 to 13

BIG RAPIDS — Downtown businesses will be bustling in mid-July as dates for the annual sidewalk sales have been announced.

Darcy Salinas, executive director of the Downtown Business Association, said businesses will have their items on Michigan Avenue from July 11 to 13.

She said on Thursday and Friday most businesses will start selling at about 9 a.m. and will stop at about 6 p.m. On Saturday most will stay open until about 4 p.m.

However, some businesses may stay open a little later, she said.

“The mornings are definitely the busiest,” Salinas said.

In addition, some businesses will have putt putt golf holes that they have kept since the “Puttin’ Around Downtown” miniature golf course in April.

Salinas said Michigan Avenue, from Maple and Elm streets, will be closed during the sales and will be reopened during the evenings.

“The main goal for a lot of the retailers is getting rid of their summer inventory,” she said. “Then they can get in their fall stock.”
