Big Rapids man dead after two-vehicle accident in Grant Township

GRANT TOWNSHIP — An accident during the early evening on Friday left a Big Rapids man dead after his motorcycle collided with a farm tractor.

According to Michigan State Police on scene, the accident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. when the 56-year-old man, who was traveling northbound on 160th Avenue in Grant Township past Collidge Road, struck a southbound tractor that was turning into a private residence.

Police say the tractor’s operator, a minor whose name will not be released, did not see the motorcycle. The motorcycle’s driver was dead upon impact.

The operators of each vehicle were the only persons involved in the crash, which is under investigation by state police. The name of the victim currently is being withheld pending family notification.
