BIG RAPIDS — Lyle E. Moore, 95, of Barryton, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Altercare of Big Rapids, where he had lived for nearly 10 years.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1918, at home in Barryton, the son of Ralph and Vera (Gingrich) Moore.

Lyle graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1936. A lifelong resident of Barryton, Lyle spent many years working in the nearby oil fields. He established the Bay Gas Station, south of Barryton, where he delivered gasoline and propane. Lyle was the Shell Oil distributor out of Mount Pleasant for many years. He also farmed on the family farm, located on 10th Avenue, in Barryton, until it was sold.

He was a life member of the James A. Cliff Masonic Lodge No. 424, of Weidman, and a life member of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 196, in Hersey.

Lyle is survived by his three children, Danny Moore, of Jackson, James Moore, of Hersey, and Paula (Jeff) Helbert, of Walker; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Thomas and Tim Moore; and a sister, Beth “Betty” Floria.

A graveside memorial service is being planned for this spring at the Strong Cemetery, near Barryton.
