OBIT -Mary A. Ermatinger

EVART — Mary A. Ermatinger passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1931, to Ed and Lyda Vanderhoef, in Plymouth. Mary and her older sisters, Jewell and Rosetta, moved with their parents to a farm in Middle Branch Township, north of Evart. She graduated from Evart High School in 1950 and married Robert Ermatinger on June 24, 1950. Mary and Bob farmed in Osceola Township, living on the same property the rest of her life.

They raised four children, Michael (Patricia), Peter (Rebecca), Beth (Steven), and Bruce (Julie), who all survive. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mary worked for Evart Products for 20 years, retiring in 1990. She loved artwork, which included painting, ceramics and working with stained glass. Her home was always surrounded with beautiful flower plantings and she enjoyed the wildlife that continually lived around their farm. Mary was active in starting the Cat Creek Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and continued as a member and sponsor for many years. Her hospitality and cooking prowess were admired by her friends and family, especially her homemade jams.

Mary and her husband Bob loved to travel the world. They were able to travel to continental Europe, England and Ireland. Their travels covered much of the United States and Canada, and they were fortunate to be able to include their children in many of their adventures. Mexico was her favorite in her last years, when they traveled to Cabo San Lucas 12 different times. Mary always made new friends on her trips, and will be missed by many people from different corners of the world.

A memorial celebration will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at The Depot in Reed City.
