Three arrests in East Bay Township drug bust

TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse Narcotics Team probe into suspected drug sales from an East Bay Township hotel room led to three arrests and the seizure of crack cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

The Wednesday evening warrant search is the second major Traverse City area drug bust in two weeks. TNT Detective Lt. Daniel King said the East Bay Township case was independent of a recent probe into a Barlow Street residence that ended with three drug-related arrests.

“The only connection is there was drug dealing,” King said.

TNT officers began an investigation after receiving information that drugs were being bought and sold out of a hotel. King declined to release information about which hotel, but said two Grand Traverse County women — ages 24 and 51 — and a Detroit man, 32, were arrested on drug-related charges.

Officers seized 38 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 6 grams of heroin and 8 grams of meth, altogether valued at an $8,000 street value.

King said packaging and scales found in the room indicated the drugs were intended for sale. Officers also seized about $4,500 in cash.

TNT conducted the search in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies. Grand Traverse County sheriff’s Capt. Randy Fewless and Traverse City Police Capt. Mike Aylng both deferred to TNT for comment.
