‘The first wealth is health’

The first wealth is health.”

Many of us at the Pioneer are taking part in a 100-day wellness program designed to encourage a more healthy approach to life.

It isn’t a mandatory program, and the entire project is really set up to be fun and not at all a burden.

If anything, the wellness program raises awareness and makes those taking part a bit more mindful of what we are doing to maintain a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis.

These simple steps at creating awareness are certainly something than can be applied by anyone, … everyone!

Here are just a few suggestions from our program we think will make your summer a little better, … and healthier.

It’s simple. Really!

  • Attend an event or function as a family.
  • Eat dinner together at the table (not in front of the TV!)
  • Do something — anything! — physical with the kids of grandkids, (a walk, bike ride, a hike in the woods …)
  • Get everyone involved in some yard work. It’s fun, and kind of spiritual.
  • Choose an exercise that everyone enjoys and get into the routine of doing it together.
  • Create and follow a healthy eating plan.
  • Cook a healthy meal together!
  • Exchange healthy recipes with friends, family and neighbors.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Quit smoking again. We know it’s hard.
  • Don’t give up. Quit smoking a third, fourth or fifth time.
  • Eat 3-5 servings of vegetables a day. This doesn’t mean you have to be a vegetarian! Just eat more vegetables.
  • Eat plenty of fresh fruit and drink water
  • And DO THIS ALL WITH YOUR KIDS. They learn more from you than from anyone else.

We warmly and enthusiastically encourage all of you to join us in taking positive steps toward improving your health this summer.
