Motorcycle passenger suffers broken leg from accident Saturday

BIG RAPIDS  — Two people were injured as a result of a motorcycle accident near State Street and Perry Avenue on Saturday.

The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety was called to the scene at 5:46 p.m. The motorcyclist was attempting to turn northbound onto State Street from Perry Avenue using the outside lane. A car turning northbound onto State Street using the inside lane, entered the motorcycle’s path of travel, forcing the motorcyclist to lose control and strike a curb.

The motorcycle driver suffered minor injuries. The passenger, a 57-year-old Big Rapids woman, suffered a broken leg and was transported to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital.

DPS was assisted by Big Rapids firefighters, Ferris State University Department of Public Safety, Mecosta County EMS and the Mecosta County Posse.
