Gun removed from campus after being found in vehicle’s trunk

BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State University Department of Public Safety recently handled the following calls. All calls might not be reported.

  • Police were called at 9:10 p.m. to McNerney Hall for a marijuana complaint. A warrant request was sent to the prosecutor’s office for possession of marijuana. The student also was referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
  • Officers located an altered parking permit at 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 13. The subject was ticketed for altering the permit.
  • Officers were called for a roommate dispute at 11:40 p.m. on Oct. 13, at Brophy Hall. The matter was referred to the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
  • Officers were dispatched at 9 a.m. on Oct. 15, to the automotive center. A weapon was found in the trunk of a vehicle that was being worked on. The owner was contacted and the gun was removed from campus.
  • Police investigated a threats complaint at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 15, at Travis Hall. The incident was referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
  • Officers were called about a sick raccoon at noon on Oct. 16, near South Campus Apartments. The animal was dispatched by officers and disposed of by the grounds crew.
  • Officers investigated a gas smell at 4:55 p.m. on Oct. 16, in the science building. The air quality was checked by Big Rapids Department of Public Safety firefighters, who found there was no leak. The odor was believed to have been from nearby construction.
  • Police were called about a marijuana complaint at 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 16, in Clark Hall. Two students were referred to the Office of Student Conduct for use of marijuana.
  • A traffic stop at 1:05 a.m. on Oct. 16, on Campus Drive led to an arrest for operating while intoxicated.
  • Officers stopped a vehicle for failure to signal at 11:10 p.m. on Oct. 17, on Perry Avenue. The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana. The matter was referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
  • Officers stopped a vehicle for an expired plate on Chestnut Street near State Street. The driver was ticketed for driving with a suspended license and violating a personal protection order between the driver and registered owner of the vehicle. A report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a possible warrant.
  • Police were called at 1:25 a.m. on Oct. 19, to South Campus Apartments for a marijuana complaint. One subject was referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
