Ferris State wins eighth-straight game

Bulldogs cruise to 86-59 win over St. Joseph’s (Ind.) on Friday

RENSSELAER, Ind. — The Ferris State men’s basketball team pushed its winning streak to eight games on Friday night in an 86-59 win over St. Joseph’s in Rensselaer, Ind.

The Bulldogs opened the game that was originally scheduled to be played on Nov. 19 on an 8-0 run including dunks from James Chappell and Noah King, and kept the offense coming as the first half played on, taking a 27-9 edge with 11:12 left in the half on an and-one play by Drew Lehman.

The Pumas made a run to cut the lead to single-digits at 29-20 with 6:12 left in the opening stanza, but the Bulldogs outscored St. Joseph’s, 13-6, the rest of the way to take a 42-26 advantage into the half.

Buckets continued to come easy for the Bulldogs in the second half, with a layup by Lehman pushing the deficit to 20 at 49-29 with 18:07 left in the contest.

The lead continued to grow as the Pumas struggled to create much offense, and the Bulldog lead ballooned to 30 points at 72-42 with 10:23 left in the game on a layup by Chappell.

The lead hovered around 30 points the rest of the way, with the Pumas taking a 17-14 edge for the second half of the final period, but the big point cushion gave the Bulldogs plenty of room to play with.

The Bulldogs had a balanced scoring attack with five players reaching double-digits on the night. King was tops for points with 18 and seven rebounds while Josh Fleming added 14 points and seven boards, Chappell chipped in 12 points, Lehman tallied 11 with four steals and Dietrich Lever put up 10 with three assists.

The Bulldogs (8-2, 4-0 GLIAC) play again on Sunday in an exhibition at Bowling Green State at 1 p.m.
