Big Rapids and Morley Stanwood have nine total bowlers receive honors

MECOSTA COUNTY — Morley Stanwood and Big Rapids’ boys and girls bowling teams had nine total athletes named to the Central State Activities Association all-league team.

On the boys side, Morley Stanwood’s Brandon Yanick, Justice Hollister and Tyler Johnson received first-team accolades. The Mohawks won the CSAA
conference championship this season.

Big Rapids junior Geoff Pisani was the lone bowler from the Cardinals’ boys team to receive all-conference laurels. He was named to the first-team. Pisani was the Cardinals’ captain and had the team’s best average score.

“On the boys side, we had pretty much a brand new team,” Big Rapids coach
David Nawrot said. “Out of the six bowlers we had, only one of them was a returner. The other five had never bowled in their lives as far as competition bowling. They made leaps and bounds to get better and better.”

For the girls, Big Rapids senior Anna Sieffert, sophomore Jenna Kampkner and senior Amber Gilbert were named as first-teamers.
Senior Jaclyn Jackson was named to the second-team.

Nawrot said that Sieffert was the leader of the Cardinals’ girls team that won the CSAA conference championship after going undefeated in conference play. They went on to place eighth at their regional meet.

“(Sieffert) put in a lot of time and dedication,” Nawrot said. “We had a very talented group of girls this year. Her goal was to make it to the state final and she put in the work and reached that goal.”

Sieffert placed 46 out of 59 at the MHSAA Division 3 individual state final.

Morley Stanwood’s Abby Shearer represented the Mohawks’ girls team as a first-team pick.
