Traverse City police: Woman crashed into light pole, drove off

TRAVERSE CITY — A hit-and-run brought Traverse City police to a woman’s apartment, where her refusal to answer the door prompted officers to obtain a search warrant.
Traverse City police Capt. Jeff O’Brien said officers arrested a woman, 38, early Saturday, nearly two hours after another motorist saw her drive over a sidewalk and hit a light pole near Cass Street and Lake Avenue.
O’Brien said the witness called dispatchers while they followed the woman to the 300 block of Seventh Street. He said officers sought a search warrant after they knocked on the woman’s door and received no response from her or a man they saw inside.
“The sergeant and two officers remained at the residence knocking on the windows,” he said.
Officers served the search warrant at about 5:30 a.m. O’Brien said the woman, who appeared intoxicated, admitted she drove home. He said they arrested her on requested charges of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving without insurance.
