-VARSITY BASEBALL

Baldwin 5-7, Traverse City Christian 14-1

BALDWIN — Baldwin improved to 1-7 with a victory over Traverse City Christian in the second game of a nonleague doubleheader on Tuesday.

Da’Ron Copeland took the loss in the first game. Tyler Clugston had two hits while Clay Bowens had a hit, two walks and scored two runs.

Clugston went all five innings in the second game, striking out five and walking four, while allowing two hits. Devonte Ponder had a key two-run single in the third inning.

Baldwin tentatively is scheduled to play Walkerville at home on Thursday.

Beal City 5-3, Pine River 3-1

LEROY — Beal City gave the Bucks their first two losses of the season Tuesday.

In Game 1, Greg Park took the loss, allowing five earned runs and striking out six. Luke Harris was 3 for 4, while Mason Powell was 2 for 4.

In the nightcap, Mitchell McDonald took the loss, also going 2 for 4 at the plate. Andrew Alberts had a double and a RBI.

The Bucks drop to 17-2.

-VARSITY SOFTBALL

Beal City 17-3, Pine River 2-0

LEROY — In Game 1, Erin Millen was 2 for 2 with a triple and a RBI, while Kyla Johnson was 1 for 2 with a RBI.

In the nightcap, Taylor Warner was 2 for 3, while Millen and Chelsey TurBurgh were 1 for 3.

-TRACK AND FIELD

Pine River boys win

LEROY — Pine River traveled to Lake City in Highland Conference competition and also faced Marion.

For the boys, Pine River beat Marion 127-35 and Lake City 84-78. For the girls, Pine River beat Lake City 94-69 and lost to Marion 86-76.

Senior Colten Rawson took first in the high jump, long jump, and 4×800 relay, and second in the pole vault for Pine River. Cole Gingrich took first in the pole vault and 100 meters, and second in the long jump and 200.

Senior throwers Mary Ware and Robyn Peppey went first and second in the shot put and discus, respectively, for the girls while Cheyanna Rizor was first in the 800 meters and 4×800 relay, and second in the 1,600 and 3200.

Evart wins pair

EVART — Evart boys defeated McBain Northern Michigan Christian 138-8, while the Wildcat girls had a 95-65 triumph Tuesday.

Winners for the Evart boys were Andrew Bengry, Joe Eastman, Trevin Ladd, Scott Martin, Nick Niles, Cody Pritchard, Sky Ranjel and Micah Wetters.

Girl winners for Evart were Lexie Fehrenbach, Sarah Nelson, Tabby Turley and Mara VanOrder.

Clare 2, Crossroads Charter Academy 1

BIG RAPIDS – Mikayla Kuenzel scored for the Cougars, while Kourtney McKinnon recorded the assist.

CCA fired 17 shots on goal.
