One dead, one seriously injured in crash in Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY — A two-car crash on N South Long Lake road left one person dead and another seriously injured.

A passenger sedan heading south and a utility truck heading north collided today just south of Eastwood Shores. The man driving the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, and the sedan’s front-seat passenger, also a man, was taken to Munson Medical Center with serious injuries, Grand Traverse County Undersheriff Nathan Alger said.

The driver of the utility truck, also a man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Alger did not know the ages or hometowns of any of the men.

“We’re working on a positive identification of the fatality victim and the other injured victim,” he said. “When we do that we’ll be releasing more information.”

Alger said a preliminary investigation shows the passenger car crossed over the center line into the path of the utility truck.

The roadway was closed for several hours but should reopen soon, he said.
