EVART — The second set of Evart’s nonleague volleyball match on Tuesday against Farwell was the type of performance first-year Wildcats coach Katie Nostrant would like to see all season.

It was the only game the Wildcats won in a 3-1 season-opening loss to the Eagles.

Evart lost the first game 25-13, but came back to win the second 25-13. Farwell took the next two 25-12, 25-18.

Evart controlled the second game with freshman McKenzie Kimball serving five straight points, including three aces, for a 5-1 lead.

Farwell struggled with its serve-receive and trailed 11-5. Mikayla Wallace’s ace gave Evart a 22-10 lead. Kimball served the winning point.

Farwell got the momentum back in the third game and led 19-6 after six straight points from Emily Vaughn.

The Wildcats hung tough in the fourth game, trailing only 17-14 after two straight points from Kamryn Struble. But the Eagles regained control and won the match on Lillian Albaugh’s ace.

The Wildcats began practices Aug. 12, and Nostrant said they haven’t had extensive time working on a new system.

“We’ve had three team practices,” Nostrant said. “We had three days to cover offense, serving, defense, hitting, blocking and covering your hitters. That’s a lot of stuff to get in three days.”

Evart had seven aces as a team. Allyssa Witbeck and Conklin led in kills. Kimball had seven assists.

The Wildcats are off until Tuesday when they play at Harrison.
