Authorities: Bank robbery suspect may have held hand grenade

TRAVERSE CITY — Surveillance footage from a robbery at a Lake Ann bank shows a suspect holding a revolver and what authorities believe could be a hand grenade.

The masked suspect walked into Honor Bank on Monday afternoon and demanded cash. Benzie County Undersheriff Kyle Rosa said tellers described the suspect as a man with a gun, but they didn’t appear to notice what appears to be a hand grenade in his other  hand.

“They were more zeroed in on the shiny handgun,” he said. “I don’t know whether they really noticed it until it was pointed out.”

The suspect left the bank with cash, prompting an ongoing search by Benzie County sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents.

Authorities are looking for a green Dodge Dakota pickup truck that two surveillance cameras captured driving through the area. Rosa said the truck drove in front of Lake Ann Brewery and through the bank parking lot at about the time when the robbery occurred.

“They could be a witness or a suspect,” he said. “We don’t know at this point. We just know it was at these two locations and seemed  suspicious.”

People with information about the robbery or the truck are asked to call (231) 882-7263.
