MECOSTA COUNTY — Snow may be on the ground and summer vacation is a ways off, but area school districts are trying to connect with the families of next year’s kindergartners.

All the local districts which comprise the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District have scheduled their kindergarten round-up events and invite parents and families to come see what their schools have to offer.

Big Rapids Public Schools

The Big Rapids Public Schools Cardinal Kindergarten Parent Orientation will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22 at Big Rapids High School in the rotunda. The high school is located at 21175 15 Mile Road, Big Rapids. The event is a great opportunity for parents to meet with school officials, according to Melissa Schieble, kindergarten teacher at Riverview Elementary.

“All of the district administrators and the kindergarten teachers will be there,” she said. “It allows the parents to get an idea of what a day in kindergarten is like. We can give them an idea of what’s expected from the kindergartners and what they will learn over the school year.”

In addition to meeting with school officials, parents will have the opportunity to sign up their children for kindergarten during the event.

“There will be registration tables set up and people from the central office will be there to help with the paperwork,” Schieble said. “We ask people to bring their child’s birth certificate and immunization records.”

Anyone interested in learning more about the kindergarten programs in Big Rapids Public Schools can contact the district’s central office at (231)796-2627.
