Reed City softball opens summer league with sweep

REED CITY — Reed City’s Local Area Teams summer league season opened at home on Wednesday with 12-2 and 17-2 victories over Tri County.

The first game went five innings.  Sidni Rushford was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Taylor Cutler and Jordyn Storch had two hits apiece. Bailey Brummel, Maddi Morgan, Alyssa Olds, Rushford and Devin Willard had one hit apiece.

The second game went four innings. Morgan was the winning pitcher allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. She struck out four.

Olds and Willard had three hits each, while Cutler, Abby Helsel and Storch had two apiece. Drew Arnold, Abby Morgan, Brummel, and Rushford had one hit each.

“It was nice to see some of our girls where you can tell they are excited about getting ready for next year,” Steig said. “They certainly stepped up their game. I thought Sidni Rushford looked very good (pitching) and Taylor Cutler did a nice job behind the plate. Devin Willard and Alyssa Olds really came to life at the plate and hit the ball well for us. It’s nice to see them get untracked.”

Reed City plays at Cadillac next Wednesday.

“I thought the older girls did a nice job leading the younger ladies,” Steig said. “We have a good mix going on right now. Summer is going to be exciting.”

Pine River 11-8, Marion 10-5

Pine River opened its LAT League summer schedule with 11-10 and 8-5 wins over Marion on Wednesday at the Bristol Fields.

Kourtney Brock was the winning pitcher of the first game. Kaylee Goodman had a triple and a RBI, Carleton Trowbridge had two singles and a RBI and Kourtney Brock had two singles and four RBIs.

In the second game, Alexis Bennett had a single and double for Pine River. Mackenzie Denton earned the win.
