Three-year starter Ladd hopes for big senior season for Wildcats

EVART — This has been a very important summer for Evart senior quarterback Trevin Ladd, who will be in his third season as the No. 1 quarterback and looking to stay healthy the entire fall.

He led the Wildcats to victory in the 2015 season opener at White Cloud, but was in a car accident and missed five games.

Recently, Ladd and his teammates participated in a team camp and a passing scrimmage against Farwell at the Wildcat practice field.

“We got a lot of reps,” he said on Friday. “We didn’t get our JV scrimmage in because Farwell didn’t have a team.”

Practices will start on Aug. 8. The season kicks off Aug. 26 at home against White Cloud.

“I’m really excited for this season,” Ladd said. “I didn’t get to play much last year because of my car accident. I played in the first game and the last three. I’m ready to bounce back.”

Ladd was able to put in full basketball and baseball seasons during the 2015-16 school year.

He was a key player in both sports and is expected to be a leader for the football team as a senior.

“I lost a (full) year of playing (football), but our team got better and our offensive line was a whole lot stronger,” he said. “I’m really confident in them.”

Ladd has been focusing on “reading different coverages, throwing the ball a little bit.”

Ladd is looking at playing defensively either at linebacker or at cornerback.

“I have the experience and I’m being a team leader,” Ladd said.

Between now and Aug. 8 when practices open, the focus will be on team-bonding, conditioning and weight lifting.

“We lost a lot of key seniors,” Ladd said. “But our offensive line is coming back strong.”
