POLICE BLOTTER: Officers called about shattered door on Hutchinson Street

BIG RAPIDS — The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety responded to the following calls on Monday. All calls may not be reported.


  • A debit card was found on the 700 block of South State Street. Police are attempting to locate the owner.
  • Officers were called to a business on the 500 block of South State Street. The store employees needed advice on what to do if they think someone is stealing.
  • Police were called to the 600 block of Hutchinson Street. A homeowner found the top part of their door was shattered.
  • A two-vehicle accident occurred on Fourth Street near the 1000 block of Baldwin Street. A truck pulled out of a parking lot and struck a northbound truck. A citation was issued.
  • Officers were called about a possible counterfeit $20 bill on the 800 block of North State Street. The bill was found to be legal tender.
  • Police received a complaint of possible attempted fraud. The complainant received a call from a woman claiming to sell insurance. Officers contacted the American Income Life insurance agency and discovered the complainant was a referred name on their records. No fraud occurred.
  • Police received a report of a teenager “ding-dong ditching” at houses around the 600 block of Marion Avenue.
  • Officers received a loud noise complaint on the 400 block of South Stewart Avenue. A man was issued a noise warning and the landlord was notified by dispatch.
  • Officers performed a traffic stop at the intersection of South Stewart Avenue and Locust Street. A woman was cited for no insurance. The vehicle was impounded.
