ZUKE: My final prep football predictions

Before I get into the predictions, I just wanted to thank all players, coaches, administrators and readers for making my experience in Big Rapids great. Beginning next week, I will be joining the Ann Arbor News as a sports reporter. During my 21 months at the Pioneer, I really enjoyed getting to know our athletes and community members, and it was a pleasure telling your stories.

When I first arrived, I quickly learned about the passionate rivalry between Big Rapids and Reed City, so it’s only fitting my final game I will be covering is a Cardinals-Coyotes football game. Let’s dive into the predictions one last time:

Reed City at Big Rapids: The Cardinals have won three straight games to get back to .500, but the Coyotes continue to dominate the CSAA Gold as they come off a 12-8 victory over Chippewa Hills. On paper, 6-0 Reed City should pull away in this one, but Big Rapids will be amped up for homecoming as it fights for a playoff spot. The Cardinals might give the Coyotes a scare in the first half, but Reed City should pull comfortably ahead by the final buzzer.

Prediction: Reed City 36, Big Rapids 14

Central Montcalm at Chippewa Hills: The Warriors will be fired up after suffering their first loss of the season last week to Reed City. Central Montcalm is 1-5 and should offer little competition to Chippewa Hills. The Warriors should have no problem clinching a playoff berth.

Prediction: Chippewa Hills 45, Central Montcalm 7

Morley Stanwood at White Cloud: The Mohawks (4-2) probably will need to win to have a chance at sharing the CSAA Silver title. They blew a 17-point lead last week against Kent City for their first conference loss, but they should bounce back Friday against a struggling White Cloud (1-5) squad.

Prediction: Morley Stanwood 42, White Cloud 6

Crossroads Charter Academy at Traverse City Christian: The Cougars (0-6) scored a season-high 18 points last week, and they will have a chance to generate some offense again on Saturday against a 1-5 TC Christian squad.

Prediction: Traverse City Christian 28, Crossroads Charter Academy 14
