Chippewa Hills takes first at St. Louis (MI) wrestling meet

REMUS — Some area wrestling teams remained active over the holidays with tournament competition including Chippewa Hills and Pine River.

The Warriors took first at the St. Louis Invitational on Thursday with 334.5 points, followed by St. Louis (167.5), Swartz Creek (158.0), Lakeview (120), Beaverton (110.5), Manton (105.0), Mio Ausable (71), Webberville (68.5), Alma (53.0). Montabella (47.0) and Fulton (34).
There were 15 teams in the tournament.

The Warriors netted a first place from Bray Haynes (112), who won 4-1 in the finals over Carson Dalrymple of Montabella. Kaden Ellis was first (119) with  5-0 record including three pins and victories by injury default and  disqualification.

Jaycob Sharp  (152) was first with a 4-0 record that included three pins and a 8-3 decision in the finals over Kyle Cassiday of Beaverton. David Spedowski was first (160) after three pins and a 10-4 decision over JT Mullins of Swartz Creek in the finals.

Robert Granberry (171) took a pin and then three straight decisions for first place while Luke Henderson (189) had two pins and two decisions for this title. Another first went to Billy Koepf (215) with three pins and a decision.

Trenton Williams (285) was 3-1 with three pins for second place at 285.

Mason Hayes (125) placed second after winning three matches and losing an 8-4 decision in the finals to Brecken Griwatsch of Swartz Creek.
Korante Lowery (130) took second after losing to teammate Brandon Russell 2-1 in the finals.

Nolan Saxton (140) was 4-0 for first place with three pins and a 6-3 decision in the finals over Jayce Kuehnlein of St. Louis 2-1.
Also for the Warriors, Austin Young was third (145) and Jake Justice (140) was fourth.

Chippewa Hills will be at the Alma Tournament on Jan. 7 and is at Big Rapids on Jan. 11 for Central State Activities Gold Division action.

Pine River second at Montrose
MONTROSE — Pine River beat Flint Carman-Ainsworth 64-3, nipped Croswell-Lexington 39-37 by ending the match with 24 consecutive points, defeated New Lothrop 42-28 and then, in the title match, lost 39-27 to Marysville.

Wrestlers that were 4-1 for Pine River were Dylan Stevens (112), Andrew Park (130) and Bryan McCurry (hwt.). Wrestlers that went 3-1 were Jake Roberts (125), Brock Nelson (125) and Raeden Holmes (189).

Park notched his 100th career victory.

Pine River wrestles at Lake City on Wednesday.
