BIG RAPIDS — Students from the Big Rapids Middle School have spent the past few months getting ready for their production of “The Jungle Book Kids.”

“We do a middle school musical every year,” said BRMS teacher and play director Katie McInnis. “We normally do Disney Jr. productions. They are shows people are familiar with but they are shorter. They are good for kids.”

The fifth- through eighth-graders in the play have been working since the fall, rehearsing after school and on some weekends to prepare for the productions which will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. The play is approximately 40 minutes long.

Even while rehearsing for their upcoming play, McInnis said her students are already looking forward to next year and wondering what the play might be.

“The students work hard together and have awesome attitudes,” McInnis said. “This is a family-friendly show. It’s short, it’s great, it’s colorful. It’s a great way to introduce kids to theater.”
