BIG RAPIDS — It was a dramatic night of basketball for three Mecosta County basketball teams on Friday.

Demetri Martin broke a school record with 50 points in leading Big Rapids to a win that clinched a share of the Central State Activities Association Gold Division title at Central Montcalm. Earlier in the night, the Big Rapids girls defeated Central to claim the title outright and earn their third straight conference crown.

Morley Stanwood pulled off its own dramatics at Kent City with Nic Huntey scoring 23 points and helping the team gain control of the CSAA Silver race and clinch a title tie.

Big Rapids 83 Central Montcalm 45 (boys)

Martin scored 15 points in the first quarter, 10 in the second, 14 in the third and 11 in the fourth against Central. He didn’t play the final five minutes of the game.

He was 17-of-26 from the floor and had eight 3-pointers. He was 8-of-10 from the line. Christian Hector added 11 points and 10 rebounds while Braeden Childress had six points, five assists, six rebounds and three steals.

Big Rapids (14-1, 12-0) can clinch the title outright on Tuesday at home against Reed City.

Big Rapids 52 Central Montcalm 42 (girls)

Kaitlyn Ray scored 13 points and Jayla Strickland added 12 to lift Big Rapids (14-4, 11-1) to the title-clinching victory. Big Rapids led 18-14 at halftime.

“It was a nice team effort tonight,” Big Rapids coach Jessica Haist said. “We executed down the stretch.”

Big Rapids is at home on Tuesday against Reed City.

Morley Stanwood 44, Kent City 43

Along with his 13 points, Huntey also had 10 boards. Tyler Dard added six points. Zach VanderPloeg had 10 rebounds. Dard hit a free throw with 1.4 seconds to play to break the tie.

The Mohawks (14-2, 8-1) are home against Greenville on Tuesday. They host White Cloud, 1-8 in the CSAA next Friday and can clinch the title outright with a win.

Kent City 54, Morley Stanwood 41 (girls)

The loss to Kent City drops the Mohawks to 10-9 overall and 5-4 in the league. Leaders for the Mohawks were Taylor Maguire with 14 points and four steals, Emma Doyle with eight points and four rebounds, Bethany Elenbaas with eight points,  Bre Berry with eight rebounds and three points while Marissa Frye had four rebounds and four assists.

Morley Stanwood plays White cloud at home on Friday.

Pine River 54, McBain NMC 42 (girls)

MCBAIN — Tied 21-21 at halftime, the Bucks outscored NMC 33-21 in the second half to blow the game open. Logan Powell led the Bucks with 18 points and Julie Justin had 16. Kierra Justin added eight points and 13 rebounds. The Bucks (16-2, 9-2) host Marion on Tuesday.
