Man accidentally hits gas instead of brake, crashes into building

BIG RAPIDS TWP. — No one was injured when a vehicle drove into a business Monday morning in Mecosta County.

Deputies from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office responded at 9 a.m. to a vehicle crash involving a building.

The accident occurred at the West Michigan Pain Clinic on Gilbert Road when a 76-year-old Big Rapids man was attempting to park. While pulling into the parking space, the driver’s foot slipped off of the brake pedal. He then attempted to stop the vehicle and hit the gas pedal instead, causing the vehicle to go onto the sidewalk and crash into a large window wall near the lobby of the clinic.

No patients or employees were injured from the accident. The driver also was not injured in the crash. The building sustained damage to the large window panels, as well as the aluminum framing for the windows.
