Ferris golf team signs two women recruits

BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State University women’s golf squad and head coach Kyle Wittenbach have announced the signing of two talented prep prospects as both Mackenzie Dale (Dover, Ohio) and Elaina Derose (DeWitt) inked with FSU during the recent fall signing period.

The duo will join the FSU program in the fall and be freshmen in eligibility during the 2018-19 campaign.

“We’re thrilled about the additions of both Mackenzie and Elaina and believe both have bright futures in our program,” said Wittenbach. “Mackenzie brings a strong skill set to Big Rapids and will certainly help to bring wins to Ferris State women’s golf.

“Also, Elaina’s strong work ethic and competitiveness are unmatched – she’s a true Bulldog,” he added.

Dale is the daughter of Gus and Linda Dale and plans to major in FSU’s renowned Professional Golf Management (PGM) program. She has competed on the prep level for Dover High School in Ohio and holds a low round of 64, which was six under at the district tournament held at Eaglesticks Golf Course in Zanesville, Ohio.

“I’m excited to play at the next level and it has been a dream of mine for so long,” said Dale. “I’m so proud to get the opportunity to do this at Ferris State.”

Meanwhile, Derose hails from DeWitt and is the daughter of Joseph and Julie DeRose. She also plans to major in Professional Golf Management and has fired top scores of 74 in an 18-hole match along with 34 for a nine-hole competition.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of the FSU golf team and looking forward to having fun and working hard,” she said.

The Bulldogs will resume their 2017-18 campaign in the spring with both the GLIAC Championships and the NCAA regional events taking place at the end of the spring season.
