BIG RAPIDS — Children were not scolded but instead encouraged to play with food Saturday during Wee Wonders.

Wee Wonders is a class designed for young children — ages 3 to 5 — and their parents or grandparents as part of Festival of the Arts. Session are each Saturday in February at the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety, 435 N. Michigan Ave.

During the latest class, which was themed Fabulous Food, kiddos created works of art with edible supplies including Skittles paint, mashed potatoes, fruits and colorful noodles.

Along with painting, making sculptures and constructing other masterpieces, children learned about healthy snacks during the session.

Owen Catter uses celery sticks and Skittles paint to create a work of art while his mother Elisa Catter watches.
