Ferris State advances to regional title game

BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State (34-1) made it 22 wins in a row with Sunday’s 94-71 win over Lake Superior (25-8) in an NCAA Midwest Regional semifinal game at Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs will play Findlay, Ohio (28-4) in the title game 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Wink.

Findlay beat Bellarmine 74-73 in Sunday’s other semifinal game.

Ferris was up 45-31 at halftime against Lake Superior, the only team to have beaten the Bulldogs this season.

Jaylin McFadden had a big first half with 14 points.

Noah King added eight and DeShaun Thrower and TyQuone Greer added seven apiece.

The Lakers were 7-of-28 from the floor and Ferris was 19-of-39 in the first 20 minutes. The two-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference MVP Zach Hankins, only had two first half points but grabbed 11 boards.

Ferris had leads as huge as 20 early in the second half and kept the lead in double digits. Hankins hit four straight points for a 77-60 Ferris bulge with 5:16 to play and the Bulldogs were able to coast to the win.

Hankins wound up with 18 points and 18 rebounds. McFadden had 16 points, Drew Cushingberry 15 and King 14.
