Weekend storm leaves impact

MECOSTA COUNTY — From power outages to cancellations and hazardous traveling conditions, a winter storm caused disruption for many folks in the area this weekend.

People were preparing for a possible weekend ice storm, and although the ice storm kept to the north, they still had to contend with dangerous conditions. A wintry mix of snow, stout winds, sleet and freezing rain have kept many from getting out on a mid-April weekend.

Many events were cancelled in the area, including prom at Reed City High School. Many church services also were called off on Sunday morning. Several school cancellations were announced as early as Sunday and will continue to be called in.

Consumers Energy costumers throughout the area lost power as weather knocked down power lines. Fallen limbs left a mess in yards.

Road crews worked diligently to keep slush and ice off the roads and officials have been warning people not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
