Crossroads new softball coach ready to lead team

Kevin Brigham

BIG RAPIDS — New Crossroads softball coach Kevin Brigham is anxious to get his team on the field in a string of games and see what the Cougars might be able to do this season.

It’s Brigham’s first year at Crossroads. He’s coached travel ball for several seasons.

“I have a daughter in junior high come through the program,” Brigham said. “She is now in seventh grade.”

Brigham is self-employed and has lived in Big Rapids close to 15 years.

Winter weather has limited Brigham’s chance to work outside with this team.

“I would imagine everyone else is in the same boat,” he said.

Brigham has 12 players on his squad.

“I have three seniors, we’re a very young team,” Brigham said. “My team is mainly freshmen and sophomores. The girls are working hard right now. We’re a work in progress. But I like where we’re headed.”

Weather-permitting, the Cougars are scheduled to play home on Monday against Brethren, at Evart on Wednesday and at Lake Leelanau St. Mary on Friday.
